Entry # 6 - The Initial Phase

Dear Diary -

I let a few days go by and made myself barely available to Geoffrey.  I told him that I was busy at work and had to work late for a few days just so I could get my thoughts together.  He bought it the first few days and it gave Omar and I time to put the first phase of our plan in place.  Omar managed to hack into Geoffrey's phone and pulled the frequently dialed numbers.  Apparently there were 2 other women besides his wife and myself he was calling around the time I had met him.  One of them was the woman I saw in the coffee shop.  Her name was Jennifer and she was a marketing manager at a local organization.  Omar found out that they had a falling out about one month ago and said that she more than likely would be a good candidate to use as a pawn in our plan.  I told him that I would think about it.  I was concerned that the more people we involved, the messier it could get.  Omar told me that she posted a story on that don't date him girl website where she talked about him being a liar and how he stole her money.  It didn't appear as if she knew about the wife and kid.  Her writing was angry and angry women, as I know, can be very dangerous when acting making decisions based off of their emotions.

One morning, Geoffrey sent me a text telling me that he needed his flash drive.  I told him that I would mail it to the address that he gave to me. He said that it was okay and that he could pick it up.  I told him that I knew how hectic his schedule was and that I would drop it in the mail after work.  I don't even think sixty seconds went by before he started blowing up my phone.  I was in a meeting and I had to send him to voice mail several times.  He then kept sending me text messages and telling me that I needed to answer the phone.  I finally told him that I was in a meeting and I would give him a call after work.  I knew that I was making him nervous because he knew that the address that he gave me was a fake one.  I figured that I would make him sweat for a while.

I called Omar when I left the office and he told me to tell Geoffrey that I had family in town and I wouldn't be able to meet with him until the following week to give him the flash drive.  Later that night I called him and gave him the story.  He said that he could just meet me at my job.  I told him that I was going to be out of the office so that I could spend some time with my relatives.  He seemed antsy and finally said that he felt like I was holding something back.  I asked him what made him think that.  Geoffrey claimed that he felt like I was brushing him off and wasn't making time for him.  I told him that it was called a job.  Sometimes it gets busy but of course since he didn't know the meaning of the word, his dumb ass wouldn't understand.  I told him that I was headed to my parents house for dinner and that I had to go.

Just then, Omar called me and told me that he was going to stay with me for about a week just in case Geoffrey tried to do anything crazy.  He told me that even though Geoffrey was the one who had everything to lose; he knew that I would feel better if he was around.  He said that he would be at my house later that night to discuss phase one of whatever he had planned.  In the meantime, Omar instructed me to make a copy of the contents on the flash drive because we needed to ensure that Geoffrey wouldn't suspect anything.  He had a feeling that I could only hold Geoffrey off but for so long.  Sure enough, about an hour later, Geoffrey called me and asked me what was wrong with me.  I told him that I had a lot going on professionally and personally and that I didn't feel like getting into it.  The boy kept badgering me until I gave him come cockamamie story about almost losing my house and how I had to borrow money from my parents and drain my savings account to avoid forecloser.  I figured that he would think I was broke but as long as I had his flash drive, I knew he wasn't going anywhere.  I also told him that he himself had been scarce and I didn't feel like he could give me the support that I needed which is why I didn't tell him anything.

All of a sudden, Geoffrey started yelling in the phone about how I wasn't the only one who had problems and that I needed to suck it up.  I told him that if he was going to continue to yell and if he didn't calm down, I was going to hang up the phone.  He regrouped and then said something that indicated that he was losing control of the situation.  "If you had said to me, Geoff, I'm going through some things and tell me what is going on, you don't know what I can do to help you!"  He continued to rant and rave.  When he became quiet, I asked him if he was finished.  He said yes.  I quietly asked him, "Who is Geoff?"  The idiot failed to realize that he referred to himself by his real name and not as Jason.  Geoffrey got quiet and then asked, "What are you talking about?"  I told him that he said Geoff, I then asked again who Geoff was.  Geoffrey claimed that he said Jason and didn't know what I was talking about.  I then decided to hit the record button on my cell phone because I knew that I was not cookoo for coco puffs.  He continued saying how he knew that I was hiding something from him and now that he knew what it was, perhaps he could help me.  I told him that he could help me by cancelling the trip that he was planning and giving me my half of the money back.  At that moment, my doorbell rang, it was Omar.  Geoffrey asked who was ringing my bell so late at night.  I told him that it was one of my cousins.  I asked him again about my money and told him that I needed it back.  He said that he didn't think that was possible.

I then put the phone on speaker so Omar could hear.  Geoffrey told me that he had to use the money to bail his brother out of jail.  He claimed that his brother had taken some money from his mother and had gone missing and how no one knew where he was only to find out that he was in jail for drunk driving.  Omar and I exchanged looks as if to ask if this fool just said that his brother stole money from his mother.  I then said that I was confused and asked how his brother could steal money from his mother if she was dead. Geoffrey then said sometimes he spoke as if his mother is still alive and that he meant to say his father.  Omar shook his head and sat down at the kitchen table.  Geoffrey then said, "I know that I shouldn't have used that money but I was like, Geoff, it's your brother man, you have to help him out."  I looked at Omar and rolled my eyes and then said, "You did it again."  "What?" Geoffrey asked.  I told him that he said Geoff again.  He claimed that he said Jason.  Omar gave me a signal to wrap up the phone call.  I told Geoffrey that I was being rude to my guest and that I would call him later.

I pressed the end button on my cell phone and sat down across from Omar and told him that I wanted to make sure that the wife knew what kind of a scum he was married to.  He said that he thought that he should talk to the wife.  I said that was fine and dandy but I wanted to make sure she knew that I was not lying.  I had some of his things that he left at my house which served as proof plus the files from his flash drive that would back up my story.  I told him that the wife and I didn't necessarily have to meet face to face and to let me lead the creativity in that area.  Omar suggested that little by little we needed to make him nervous and wreak havoc that could not be tied to me.  He told me that he had a contact in the unemployment office and sent in a report to them indicating that Geoffrey was making money "off of the books" while collecting unemployment.  His contact assured him that Geoffrey's unemployment benefits would be suspended "due to an investigation of new found information".  Omar was able to get bank records that showed several deposits ranging from $500-$1000.  We figured that he either stole the money or hustled it from other women like he did me.  Basically, in a day or so, it would be time for Geoffrey to file for unemployment and that is when he would find out that his benefits have been suspended.  In the meantime, Omar was able to figure out the password to the online bank account.  He created a dummy account and moved the money out from Geoffrey's account and left one cent.  Omar said that he would get my cash back but did not want to transfer it to my account so there would not be any traces leading to me.

The next step involved calling the credit card company to get some basic information on what would happen if I reported Geoffrey as the person who stole my credit card.  I informed them that I knew who placed the charges on my card and asked what I needed to do to report him.  The customer service rep transferred me to the fraud division where they asked me a series of questions.  They informed me that since the dummy used my credit card at a gas station that they more than likely could pull his photo from the security camera.  I told the woman that I was concerned for my safety and asked if Geoffrey would know who reported him, she told me only if my case were to go to court would he be able to find out. She told me that the investigation could take up to 90 days and that if they did not have an update by then, the claim would be dismissed.  She asked me if I wanted to submit a claim and I told her no then ended the call.  I wasn't quite ready to file the report.

Omar told me that I needed to wait at least a day or two in order to see what would happen.  He said the moment Geoffrey realized that his money was gone, I would be able to see a difference in his behavior.  In the meantime, we had set up a dummy profile on the dating website and targeted Geoffrey's profile.  We sent him a getting to know you email to see if he would take the bait.  We figured that he would be in need of a new victim once he discovered that he was flat broke and this was an easy way to draw him out so we could move onto the next phase.  It was time for Geoffrey to get a taste of his own medicine and boy was it going to be bitter.....
